Reporting Abuse

We can only accept complaints if the offending article was sent by a local sender from our server

  • To be able to help you, the offending article must have been sent locally, from our server.
You need to verify this by reviewing all the hidden headers and finding the NNTP-Posting-Host line, it needs to say: NNTP-Posting-Host: news.ausics.net
Next find the X-Complaints: header and ensure it points to abuse at our ausics domain name.
The Path: line can also shed some light on who the sending server is.

  • If the message in question does not contain the above information the message was likely sent through our system and not from it, meaning that we are upstream of the senders server, in this case, you need to contact the abuse unit of that service, usually identifiable by the same methods above.
We relay for other News Servers, but we do not control, nor have any say on how they run their service (it's how Usenet works).

  • You need to review our Terms of Use (above) to ensure there is a violation of our usage conditions.
Please note in relation to defamation, Australia has uniform laws which allow for the Defence of Truth.
So rather than get a post removed your just out of pocket for lawyers. Also note that removal of a post from this server wont remove it from the Internet, it will be out there with many thousands of other servers, both public and private - should they carry the group the message was sent in.

  • You need to contact us (above) and outline your complaint in as much detail as possible, you must also include all headers, including hidden headers, this allows us to review the article in question in full without the possibility of alterations.

  • If your complaint is of a serious threat to your personal safety or property, you are also advised to contact your local Police Station, or call Police on 131 444 (Australia only).
If there is an immediate threat to personal harm, or loss of life or property, call Police on 000 (Australia only).

Law Enforcement Agencies

  • We are located in Brisbane, in The State of Queensland, Australia, the alleged offences must fall under Australian Law.
Only Australian Courts and LEA's have the legal right to request a posters details.

    • We do not hold any personal information on any Usenet user, access is by way of IP address only.
    • We do not log any subscriptions or un-subscriptions to groups. ¹ ²
    • We do not log accesses or reads to any groups, or articles. ¹ ²
    • We do log the IP address of a readers initial connection to show who has been granted or denied access.
These logs are kept for a minimum of one month.
    • We do log the IP address, Message-ID, Subject and From meta data of locally posted articles.
These logs are kept for a minimum of one month.

¹ This is by default, the single rare exception to this is if a fault develops and we can not identify the cause, we may then place the server briefly into debug mode, which does log GROUP commands, because debug logs grow very big very quickly, it is rare - a last resort actually, that this is enabled at all, and when enabled never for longer than 15 minutes due to the huge log size.

² Basically, this means if you want to know who, if anyone, read a specific post, or accessed a specific newsgroup, we can not tell you, however, if you need the senders IP address of a locally posted article within the past month, we likely can tell you, for longer than one month, the chances greatly diminish.
Note: Just because someone has (cross) posted to a group, does not mean that they are subscribed to, or even read that group, only that they (cross) posted a message to it.
